Principal's Biography

Ms. Benitez has over twenty years in education. She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications and Teaching Credential from Cal State Los Angeles. After teaching for the Los Angeles Unified School District for 10 years at the elementary and high school level, she was granted a fellowship to National Urban Fellows in New York where she earned a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Baruch College. Ms. Benitez then moved to the Midwest where she interned for Chicago Public Schools at the Board Office, under former U.S. Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan. Because Los Angeles is her home she returned to Los Angeles Unified as an out of the classroom Intervention Teacher. She then pursed her Master of Arts in Education and Administrative Credential under the Principal Leadership Institute at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Although Ms. Benitez spent most of her career teaching elementary students, she has held administrative positions at the Middle School and High School level as well. In addition, she was a Board member of a 0-5 early learning program that serviced Los Angeles students prior to entering Kindergarten.

Ms. Benitez began her career with the Garvey School District in 2012 and has enjoyed her new home ever since.

Personal Message from the Principal

Welcome to George I. Sanchez Elementary!

If you read my biography you can clearly see I have committed my professional career in serving children, youth and families. I love what I do and who I do it for...my students! I believe in every child's growth potential and no step is too small as long as it's in the right direction. Not one unit can do it alone, we all have to pitch in to support our kids, our future caregivers and leaders of the world. Si se puede! We can and will do it!
