Welcome to kindergarten at Sanchez School!
My name is Laura Sakamoto. Welcome to room KA at Sanchez School! I am looking forward to an amazing year!
I have been teaching kindergarten at Sanchez Elementary for 23 years. My philosophy of education is to instill a love of learning while motivating the children to their highest potential. My hope is that kindergarten will plant the seed for each child to become lifelong learners.
I reside in South Pasadena with my family. I am married and have a daughter (15 years old) and a son (12 years old). I enjoy spending time with my family, am a Los Angeles Kings and Dodgers fan and love playing with my chocolate lab, Barkley.
I grew up in Monterey Park, CA and graduated from Alhambra High School. I received a B.A. in child development and elementary teaching credential from Cal State Los Angeles. I later received my masters of science degree in education from National University.
Sanchez is a Leader In Me school. The Leader In Me model is based on Franklin Covey's whole school transformation process. It teaches 21st century life skills, creates a culture of student empowerment and fosters a belief that every child can be a leader. We also implement and practice PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Support) which is a proactive, positive support system created to foster a positive school environment to make our school safer and improve student behavior. We have school-wide as well as classroom expectations which are taught to the students so they know what behaviors are expected of them. At Sanchez, we love to SOAR (which stands for being Safe, Organized, Accountable and Respectful)!
I can't wait to see what this year has in store for us! I know that we will learn and grow a lot and hope that we will have tons of fun doing it! I look forward to a great year! Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Welcome again!
